That's right. You can help someone out by learning to dance! R&J Academy teachers-in-training need hands-on experience giving lessons in preparation to becoming professional ballroom instructors. Volunteers learn to dance while helping trainees pursue a career in dance.
Co-Owner / Coach / Education Manager of R&J Academy
Jonathan began dancing in 2006 at the age of 16. Immediately he took to teaching and began ballroom clubs in local high schools, both Canton McKinley and Glen Oak. Since, Jonathan has travelled throughout the United States, competing in every major ballroom competition, taking home national and world titles for both himself and his students. Now residing back in his hometown of Canton, Ohio, Jonathan opened R&J Ballroom dance studio with his wife Rachel and plans to make Canton a hub for ballroom dance education!
Co-Owner / Coach / R&J Academy Professor
Rachel Green is a graduate of the University of Akron with a degree in Musical Theatre Dance. She is a former member Dancing Wheels, a modern dance company of Cleveland, and is the former Dance Department Coordinator of Solon Center for the Arts. Rachel began her studies in ballroom while at the University of Akron and has taught in the Cleveland area for over fifteen years. She won several American Rhythm Professional Rising Star titles while competing with her partner (and now husband), Jonathan Green, and currently teaches private and group ballroom lessons at several locations in Northeast Ohio.
Instructor / Trainee Coordinator
Louis has spent 25 years of his life as a student, performer, and instructor of dance. He trained with the Cleveland and Akron Ballet and studied dance at Kent State and The Ohio State Universities. Louis also trained with well-known choreographers throughout the country and made his living as a professional
dancer. At the age of 54 he became interested in ballroom dancing and quickly decided to make a serious commitment to the sport. He trained 20 to 30 hours a week and at the age of 56 competed as an amateur, making quite an impression on the competitive dance floor. Now on staff with R&J, Louis has taken on the role as Staff Trainee Coordinator within R&J's training
academy. But, most importantly, Louis will tell you that due to R&J's comprehensive training programs, he has grown as a ballroom dancer more in the the last two years than he has in the 13 years he has been involved in the sport.
